Influencer Campaign Reporting: Connect Content to Visits and Enquiries with UTMs

Organise measurement before publishing so the report distinguishes execution, observable results and gaps in the evidence.

Start with an execution record

For each asset, record the creator name or internal code, platform, format, agreed timing, publication link and metrics collection date. Retain reviewable evidence, particularly for temporary formats. Separate 'published as agreed' from 'achieved the objective': delivery compliance and business impact are different questions.

Choose metrics from the objective. An awareness campaign may examine reach, engagement and comment quality; an enquiry campaign needs a qualified-lead definition and follow-through. Do not assume platforms define views identically, or sum reach as unique people without being able to remove duplication.

A proposed UTM naming structure

  • utm_source: the referring platform, such as instagram, using a consistent name.
  • utm_medium: the channel type under your measurement plan, such as influencer; check channel grouping in your reports.
  • utm_campaign: a shared campaign name, such as brand_launch_eg.
  • utm_content: an asset or creator code, such as creator_a_story_01, without personal data.
  • Test on mobile: confirm the destination, parameters after redirects and recording of the intended event.

An illustrative link is https://example.com/product?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=influencer&utm_campaign=brand_launch_eg&utm_content=creator_a_story_01 . This demonstrates naming and is not a real campaign link. Do not put customer emails or phone numbers in it. Keep spelling and capitalisation consistent to avoid fragmenting the campaign across names.

The report's summary page

  • Goal, scope, market, reporting period and latest available data date.
  • What ran, what was delayed, content links and departures from the agreement.
  • Platform metrics with definitions and sources, avoiding incompatible comparisons.
  • Link visits, qualified enquiries and orders under the available measurement setup.
  • Clearly defined costs, limitations and a proposed next-campaign decision.

Understand tracking limitations

A viewer might later search for the brand, buy on another device, or use a code shared by somebody else. UTMs do not automatically solve tracking rejection or missing events. State what was observed and what could not be attributed. An association with a traffic source is different from proof of additional impact caused by the campaign.

Google Analytics explains that UTM parameters identify campaigns referring traffic and that source, medium and campaign can be examined in Traffic acquisition. Official naming reference: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10917952 . The reporting checklists here are an INFLUUGC proposal, not official Google requirements.

Turn the report into a decision

Review findings alongside creator selection criteria: audience relevance, execution quality and message fit. The next step might be a better brief, a revised destination or a clearer repeat test. See influencer campaign management and share your scope in the brief.

FAQ

Do UTMs track every influencer sale?

No. They help identify visits arriving through a tagged link when measurement is available. Later visits, device changes and shared codes limit attribution.

Should the creator's name be utm_source?

Choose one consistent scheme. This example uses the platform in source and a creator or asset code in content. Check how your chosen medium affects channel grouping.

When should results be collected?

Agree collection points suitable for the format and goal, recording each read's time. Comparable periods and definitions, with data delays disclosed, matter more than selecting an attractive snapshot.
