Writing a UGC Video Script: Words That Get Believed, Not Ads That Get Watched
A successful UGC script does not read like an ad; it reads like someone who actually tried the thing. This article breaks the script into its four parts, explains writing the hook, and answers who should write it: the brand or the creator.
The difference between a UGC video that gets believed and one that gets watched and forgotten is usually not the camera or the creator's face; it is the page written before filming. A weak script turns any creator into an ad presenter, and a sound one makes the simplest filming feel like a real experience. In our UGC service work the script is its own reviewed step, and this article takes it apart. It is the natural companion to our UGC brief template: the brief says what; the script says how it will be said.
The script's four parts
The hook: an opening line from the audience's own life (a situation, a question, a surprising result) — not the brand's name or slogan.
The situation: the problem or need as the viewer actually lives it, with daily details they recognise.
The experience: the product inside the situation, not outside it — real use and at least one specific detail (a scent, a texture, a step, a before/after).
The soft call: a natural next step (try it, see it, order it) phrased like someone recommending, not a seller pushing.
The hook: the first seconds decide everything
The viewer decides in the first moments: continue or scroll. A successful hook does not open with the product's definition but with the viewer recognising themselves: if humidity ruins your hair like mine… is stronger than our new hair-care product, because the first speaks about the viewer and the second about the seller. Write at least three hook versions for the same idea and record which one holds viewing — organised version testing is covered in our UGC creative testing plan.
Dialect and claims: lines that do not break
The script is written in the dialect of the market it will run in: Egyptian for Egyptians, Saudi for Saudis — and mixing dialects is the first sign of a translated ad that audiences catch instantly. The second line: claims. Every sentence in the script must be a provable truth about the product; rhetorical exaggeration that passes in a polished commercial is exposed immediately in the mouth of a creator speaking as a real person, and it damages both parties' credibility. The boundaries of what may be said should already be written in the brief before the script.
Script mistakes that kill good videos
Opening the video with the brand's name and campaign slogan instead of a moment from the viewer's life.
Cramming five messages into one video — the single message is the one that gets remembered.
Writing written language: sentences no human says aloud, so the acting shows instantly.
Forgetting the call entirely, or making it sales shouting that breaks the experience's spirit.
Sending the identical script word-for-word to ten creators, producing ten copies of the same person.
Script mistakes are part of a bigger picture — the rest of the campaign mistakes (selection, rights, measurement) are gathered in common UGC campaign mistakes.
Who writes the script: the brand or the creator?
The model we work with: structure, messages and approved claims from the brand and the agency, and final phrasing in the creator's own voice before filming — because they are the one who will say the words on camera, and any sentence foreign to their voice will show. A brand that writes every letter loses the creator's naturalness; a brand that leaves everything to the creator loses the message and the safe claims. The balance is joint review — which is what makes what UGC is a practical question, not a theoretical one: the content resembles people because it genuinely passed through their hands.
Scripts that get believed, with influUGC
At influUGC, scriptwriting is part of our service: a message approved by you, phrasing in your market's dialect, and a review in the creator's voice before filming day — for Egypt and Saudi Arabia. FAQ
How long is a 30-second video script?
Around 65 to 80 words spoken at a natural pace. Longer writing forces the creator to rush and the words lose their naturalness; always time it by reading aloud in real time before approval, not by word count alone.
Should the script be formal or dialect?
In the dialect the target market's audience actually speaks, because UGC is measured by how people talk, not how institutions write. The only exception is products requiring precise formal phrasing (financial or medical) — and even there, sentences stay short and spoken, not written.
Do I write a separate script per creator?
One structure and message, with phrasing adapted to each creator's voice. One literal version for everyone produces videos identical in spirit, and fully separate scripts from scratch lose the campaign its unifying message — the balance: the same four parts, in each creator's own words.

Marketing Agency or In-House Team? A Decision Guide for Egyptian Brands
Choose your marketing model around recurring work, missing expertise and approval speed. An internal team holds product and customer knowledge; an agency adds specialist execution. A hybrid works when one brand owner makes decisions, the agency has a defined scope, and the business can retain its accounts, retrieve its data and manage access.
Can I Order UGC Without Posting on the Creator’s Account?
Yes. You can commission videos for delivery to the brand without creator posting. Production, distribution and usage rights are separate scope decisions. Define placements, duration, versions and revisions before comparing proposals, and assess the creator’s presentation skills rather than follower count alone.
What Should I Prepare Before a Marketing Agency Meeting?
Prepare one page describing your business, market, customer, objective and current channels. Request an agenda, an initial scope and a clear next step. The meeting should diagnose needs and missing information before a proposal, rather than promise sales before research. Share appropriate summaries, not passwords or customer lists.
Should I Request Raw Footage or Final Videos from a Production Company?
Start with intended use and distinguish a final export, raw camera footage and an editing project. Each is a different deliverable requiring clear formats, organization and rights. An internal editing team may need raw material; a publishing team may benefit more from platform and language versions. Specify assets rather than asking for “everything.”
One Brand Video Everywhere, or Different Platform Versions?
One shoot can supply several versions, but each placement needs an edit suited to its purpose. The opening, format, text, audio and call to action may change without requiring another shoot. Build a version matrix before editing and review each export in its actual placement rather than assuming resizing is enough.
